Sneak Peek of the Newly Made Regency Ballgowns!!

Hi! I just recently finished the last touches on our regency Ball gowns!! One for my mum, and one for me. I will most likely make two more (one each) because we will have 3 balls this year, and you really can't wear the same dress for all the balls (or maybe I just need a reason to make more dresses haha)! So. My inspiration came a lot from the movie Vanity Fair, with all it's brightly coloured costumes. My mum's dress is made with royal blue silk taffeta from Vietnam. Mine is made with a vintage Indian sari that I got on eBay. Using the sari for a Regency dress does not only look fabulous, it's actually period accurate!! Trade between India and England was already well established in the Regency era, so fashionable ladies could have stunning dresses made with luscious Indian silks.

Well anyway, here are the pictures. We will have good ones taken at out Regency ball in april in full getup.

The first one is mine. The sari was already embroidered. I strategically used the various parts of the sari to make the bodice, skirt, sleeves, bib and ties. I sill have a length of it left, I'll see what I do with it! Isn't the color absolutely stunning?

And this one is my mother in her silk taffeta dress. It's incredibly light and super comfortable!!

Notice Charming the cat in the bottom corner!! I think he was in need of attention!

I'm really pleased with how they both turned out. Still plenty of garments to make for the festival and other events, but I think I'm making good time.

Have a nice day!

    1. Thanks a lot! It took a bit of thought to figure out how to fit all those gold borders, but I'm really pleased with it!
