What I've been up to since my last post...

Hi there, I havent posted anything in quit a while!! I've been rather busy, lately. I'm working in a four star hotel as a barmaid and waitress (until I can be a doula full time), and since it's high season now, I work much more. I'va also taken the time to create a professional page on facebook for my labor support services. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/LaurieAccompagnante Most of what I post there is in french, but a lot of stuff is in english, especially some videos and links. I'v written two new posts on my (french language) doula blog as well. However, I still managed to get some sewing and knitting done.

First of all, I started a new costume project. It's an 18th century outfit, and I call it the ''New France Hippie'', because I won,t quite follow the rules of proper fashion of the New France period. The main thing being that I will wear the stays on top of the outfit and not covered by a dress...

here is my sketch:

The 18th century style stays will be laced in the front and back, and this will be the outer fabric:

The chemise under the corset will be plain white or cream, depending on what I find, and the skirt will be a very dark purple silk I have in my stash. Te skirt will alsi serve as a petticoat for my 1840's ball gown (still a work in progress, I haven't finished the undies yet). I might also be using my corded petticoat, which is also for my 1840's dress. So the whole outfit won't really be period accurate, but I'm sure the look of it will be awesome (and most people won't know the difference anyway...)

As for my knitting endeavours, I found some interesting patterns and ideas to get inspired with and kitted some educationnal material for my (near)future as a childbirth educator, so I knitted some:

First a cute little uterus with poseable fallopian tubes!

And this is a ''full-term', uterus in witch I can put my foetal doll and it's placenta  and demonstrate dilatation, contractions and crowning. The soft thing on top is supposed to be a closed cervix that fits in the birth canal. Educationnal and medical material is usually very expensive, so I was really happy to realize I could make some myself!!

I've also re-started my ETSY shop and now concentrate on newborn hats, to go with my labor support practice. I've started knitting more newborn hats as well as sewing some baby caps for a friend who ordered some.  Needless to say, I'm keeping pretty busy!!

  1. A Hippy 18th Century would look perfect in Rococo High! (My crazy concept for an 18th century high school, encouraging fun fashion inspired by Rococo styles) https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rococo-High-School/168053836633883

  2. Yes I remember! I saw that post when you made it! My hippy would totally fit in the picture, even though I hated high school in real life! What a fun idea you had :P

  3. Would you be willing to share where you got the pattern for the full sized uterus? I've seen a few but this one looks perfect and I would love to gift one to a doula friend. You can reach me at williamgeorge(dot)knits(at)yahoo(dot)com. Thanks so much!
